The ReLUIS Consortium – Network of University Laboratories for Seismic and Structural Engineering – and AI4I – the Italian Institute for Artificial Intelligence for Industry – have signed a Framework Agreement for technical and scientific collaboration aimed at promoting joint activities in research, development, and training in the fields of construction and infrastructure management.
The agreement was established with the goal of enhancing the complementarities between the scientific and technological expertise of the two institutions, fostering the development of highly innovative initiatives in the field of structural engineering and, in particular, applications of artificial intelligence to support knowledge development, design, monitoring, risk management, and the maintenance of structures and infrastructures.
Within this framework, the collaboration will also benefit from ReLUIS’s consolidated experience in the fields of risk prevention and mitigation, developed through its longstanding relationship with the national civil protection system and its technical-scientific support activities on issues related to structural and infrastructural safety.
The Agreement also provides for the possibility of establishing collaborations between research groups, developing advanced training programs aimed at the ReLUIS and AI4I research communities, professionals and industry operators, and promoting public and scientific discussions on topics related to digital innovation and the application of artificial intelligence in structural engineering.
The collaboration between ReLUIS and AI4I represents a significant opportunity to strengthen the dialogue between scientific research, technological development, and industrial applications, contributing to the definition of new innovation scenarios for the construction sector. These developments may have positive impacts on the production system, infrastructure managers, public administrations, and, more broadly, on policies related to risk prevention and management.
The four-year Agreement provides an institutional framework within which specific implementation initiatives may be developed in line with the shared objectives of the two institutions.
