ReLUIS expresses its deepest condolences for the passing of Prof. Paolo Emilio Pinto, which occurred on Saturday, 10 January 2026.
Former Full Professor at Sapienza University of Rome, Paolo Emilio Pinto was a leading figure for those working and conducting research in the field of seismic risk prevention and mitigation, and in particular for the development of seismic regulations.
Within ReLUIS, he had taken part in significant research projects in collaboration with the Department of Civil Protection, focusing on the assessment and reduction of bridge vulnerability and on safety models for existing buildings.
The memory of Prof. Paolo Emilio Pinto will continue to live on in the academic and research communities and will long inspire the work carried out by the scientific community operating within ReLUIS.
