On 1 December, at the Auditorium of the National Central Library of Rome, the MARS project — National-scale Seismic Risk Maps — was officially presented. The initiative is promoted by the Italian Civil Protection Department in collaboration with the ReLUIS and Eucentre Competence Centers.

The meeting opened with remarks by Fabio Ciciliano, Head of the Civil Protection Department, who highlighted the Department’s commitment to developing technical-scientific products designed to guide strategic actions aimed at protecting human life, property, and settlements. Forecasting and prevention activities, in fact, contribute to reducing the impacts of seismic events on the territory, alongside emergency management actions.

ReLUIS President Mauro Dolce, together with Professors Andrea Prota and Angelo Masi, also took part in the event, illustrating the scientific and institutional contribution provided by the Network to the project’s activities.

The assessments produced within the MARS project have direct applications in several fields: from allocating resources for seismic prevention, to supporting civil protection planning, up to awareness-raising initiatives such as the Sicuro+ project.
